Chipotle

Fast-food restaurants inspired by Mexican food: burritos, tacos and bowls.

📖 Its story

Steve Ells was a chef, and he loved burritos. In 1993 he opened his first Chipotle restaurant in Denver, near a university. He named it Chipotle, after the dried, smoked jalapeño pepper, and he wanted to serve fast food made with fresh ingredients.

💵 How it makes money

It sells burritos, tacos and bowls in its restaurants and through online orders.

🤯 Fun fact

To open his first restaurant, Steve Ells used an 85,000-dollar loan from his dad.

👍 The good part

Many customers come back often, and lots of people order on its app.

⚠️ The risk

If ingredients or wages get much more expensive, it earns less on each burrito.
