Verizon

Provides cell phone and internet service to millions of people in the United States.

📖 Its story

A long time ago, one single phone company, AT&T, ran almost all the phones in the United States. In 1984 it was split into several smaller companies, and one of them was Bell Atlantic. In 2000, Bell Atlantic joined with another company, GTE, and together they formed Verizon.

💵 How it makes money

It charges people and companies a fee every month for cell phone and internet service.

🤯 Fun fact

The name Verizon mixes 'veritas' (truth, in Latin) and 'horizon.'

👍 The good part

Lots of people pay for their plan every month, so money comes in steadily.

⚠️ The risk

Building and keeping up networks like 5G costs a huge amount, and it competes hard with AT&T and T-Mobile.
