RTX (Raytheon)

Makes airplane engines, airplane parts and defense systems.

📖 Its story

In 1922, three friends started a company in Massachusetts that was later called Raytheon, and it made tubes for radios. Over the years it grew a lot. In 2020 it joined with United Technologies, and today it's called RTX.

💵 How it makes money

It sells engines (Pratt & Whitney) and airplane equipment to airlines, and defense systems to governments.

🤯 Fun fact

A Raytheon engineer, Percy Spencer, invented the microwave oven after a chocolate bar melted in his pocket near a radar.

👍 The good part

Its engines and parts are in many of the airplanes flying around the world.

⚠️ The risk

It depends a lot on what governments decide to spend, and a problem with its engines can cost it a lot.
