Progressive

Sells car insurance to cover accidents and damage.

📖 Its story

In 1937, two lawyers, Joseph Lewis and Jack Green, started a car insurance company in Ohio. They wanted to do things differently and make it easier for customers. Little by little it became one of the biggest car insurance companies in the United States.

💵 How it makes money

It charges its customers a payment called a premium and pays for the damage when there's an accident.

🤯 Fun fact

Flo, the character in its commercials, a salesperson dressed in white, has been around since 2008.

👍 The good part

In many places having car insurance is required, so there are always customers.

⚠️ The risk

If there are lots of accidents or storms, it has to pay more than it expected.
