Oracle

Makes programs and data centers so companies can store and organize their information.

📖 Its story

In 1977, three programmer friends opened a small company called Software Development Laboratories. Their idea was to build a database: a giant digital filing cabinet where companies could store and find information super fast. Over the years, that filing cabinet became famous all over the world.

💵 How it makes money

It charges companies and governments to use its programs and to rent space in its cloud.

🤯 Fun fact

The name Oracle comes from a CIA project with that name, which Larry Ellison worked on before starting the company.

👍 The good part

Lots and lots of banks, hospitals and governments trust its databases to keep important information.

⚠️ The risk

Building cloud data centers costs a huge amount of money, and it competes with giants like Amazon, Microsoft and Google.
