Lockheed Martin

Makes airplanes, satellites and spacecraft, mostly for governments.

📖 Its story

In 1912, two brothers, Allan and Malcolm Loughead, started building airplanes in California, and that same year Glenn Martin opened his own airplane factory. For many years they were separate companies. In 1995 they joined together and formed Lockheed Martin.

💵 How it makes money

Governments, especially the United States, buy airplanes, defense systems and space equipment from it.

🤯 Fun fact

Lockheed Martin builds the Orion spacecraft, which NASA uses in its Artemis program to go back to the Moon.

👍 The good part

It has very long contracts with governments, which gives it work for many years.

⚠️ The risk

It depends a lot on what the U.S. government decides to spend on defense.
