GE Aerospace

Makes and repairs engines for passenger and military airplanes.

📖 Its story

In 1892, General Electric was formed by joining the company of Thomas Edison, the inventor of the light bulb, with another electric company. For more than a hundred years it made all kinds of things: light bulbs, refrigerators and turbines. In 2024 it split up, and the airplane engine part stayed as GE Aerospace.

💵 How it makes money

It sells airplane engines and, most of all, charges for maintenance and spare parts for many years.

🤯 Fun fact

In the 1940s, General Electric built the first jet engines in the United States.

👍 The good part

Its engines are in thousands of airplanes that carry people all over the world.

⚠️ The risk

If people fly less, like during the pandemic, airlines use and repair fewer engines.
